Personality and Business
Self Awareness develops the capacity to work with our strong points while not being tripped up by our weaknesses. Any effective individual or team needs to understand how they operate, what their preferences are and how this affects their behaviour.
The use of personality profiling is one of the most effective ways of developing awareness. Through it individuals and teams come to understand why they and their colleagues behave in the way they do, gravitate to certain behaviour modes, read situations differently and make decisions in particular ways. We use the Enneagram, which is a personality inventory that raises one’s awareness of how one’s personality impacts on how we respond in life and how we think. It considers broad temperamental factors, it highlights what one’s main attitudes are, one’s typical behavioural tendencies, what upsets one, what one tends to avoid, what irritates us about others and how we irritate them, how we tend to function as leaders and how we take up our team roles. Awareness of one’s personality enables us to leverage those aspects of our personality that set us up for success in our work and lives, and those aspects which, without growth, might trip us up. |
We also use the Emotional and Social Competencies Inventory, which is a 360 degree instrument that gives clients feedback on how they show up socially and emotionally in the workplace. This represents a starting point for our coaching work, and enables clients to set meaningful goals in terms of their impact at work.
We also use the Feedback Rocket instrument, which enables us to conduct a 360 degree assessment on a client AND engage confidentially with respondents in order to obtain qualitative input. This gives our clients feedback on how they are perceived by their team members, colleagues and others in the business on a wide range of leadership dimensions – and this is immensely useful to anyone on a growth path.
